Kids on the Move with Scooter and Me - A DVD Review

We love Scooter and Me, and think you and your children will too!

Move with Me Action Adventures is an award-winning DVD series created by Wendy Piret and Liz Bragdon for children aged three through seven years old.  The DVDs use storytelling to lead young kids through a series of yoga poses and creative movements in a playful format, and guide them through several relaxation techinques aimed at helping with common troubles such as fear, anger, confusion, sadness and frustration.

The DVDs are organized into three box sets, namely Body, Mind and Heart, and are comprised of three individual story sequences approximately twenty minutes long.  Each DVD builds upon another to establish the story of Scooter and the Boy, and their various adventures.  The boy first receives his scooter in ‘The Birthday Gift,’ the first in the Body series, and in the remaining stories, Scooter and the Boy visit the zoo, the moon, Australia’s coral reef and more fun destinations.

Each DVD introduces at least two adventure skills which contribute to a healthy mind, body and heart.  Deep breathing, positive thinking, and other techniques aim to decrease stress, increase focus and coordination and build confidence for overall wellness.  These skills are built into each story as the boy and his shiny red scooter overcome obstacles.  Kids may not realize they are learning these skills for themselves simply by acting out the story with Wendy, the instructor and storyteller.

This product has been recognized by numerous organizations for its valuable lessons in physical fitness, creativity, stress relief and for its educational nature.  We love the engaging storytelling format and the playful nature of Wendy, the instructor on each DVD.  This is a product one could use at home, at school or within an organization for young children.   It can be done indoors, with no additional equipment, and can supplement a child’s physical fitness program, while encouraging play and imagination. 

What we are especially excited about is the fact that the series can be integrated beautifully into any children's yoga program as the lessons learned are universal principles reflected in yoga philosophy and the overall content truly does work to educate the whole child.
